Build the confidence to speak German

Work towards real-life German conversations with a teacher you choose. Your paid lessons help more people access English teaching through Classroom.

Pay per lesson, no subscription. You see the full price before you book.

Whatever you're learning for, make it count.

  • For a job offer in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

The interview, the contract, the team lunch on your first day. German for work, practised before you need it.

  • For a university place taught in German.

Many courses ask for a Goethe-Zertifikat or TestDaF. Work towards the level your application needs.

  • For a new home, and everything that comes with it.

Registering your address, talking to your landlord, getting to know the neighbours. Everyday German, one conversation at a time.

  • For a career in engineering, research or industry.

Engineering, manufacturing and research jobs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland often ask for working German, even in teams that use English. Bring the words of your field to your lessons and practise the meetings and small talk that come with the job.

Start with the German you'll need in your first week there, and build from that.

The Nattive difference

As your language skills grow, so does the opportunity to learn

Every paid lesson helps build Classroom, Nattive’s funded English-learning programme. Our five-year goal is 100,000 hours of live teaching for learners in developing countries.

A £27.50 lesson includes £2.50 for the Classroom, enough to fund 6 minutes of teaching.

Based on a £25 teacher lesson price. The 10% Classroom contribution is included in the price you see and is never taken from the teacher's pay.

Common questions

Will I learn German from Germany, Austria or Switzerland?
Standard German, Hochdeutsch, is understood everywhere German is spoken, and it's what you'll read and write. Austria has its own words for everyday things, and in German-speaking Switzerland people speak Swiss German dialects day to day. If you're moving to Vienna or Zürich, a teacher from there can tell you what to expect: each profile shows the teacher's country.
Is German grammar as hard as people say?
It has more endings than English, and that's what lessons are for. Your teacher takes the cases one at a time, with plenty of practice, at your pace.
Which certificate do I need: Goethe-Zertifikat, telc or TestDaF?
It depends on where you're going. Universities in Germany usually ask for TestDaF or the DSH, and many accept a Goethe-Zertifikat C2 or telc C1 Hochschule. Employers and visa offices often name a Goethe or telc certificate at a set level, such as B1. Check what's asked of you, then tell your teacher your target level and date.
How are teachers chosen?
Teachers apply to teach on Nattive, and not everyone is accepted. We look at their teaching, and at something they've done to help other people. Each teacher's profile tells you a little about that.
Where does the 10% go?
10% of the teacher's lesson price, included in the one price you see, goes to Nattive Classroom. See exactly how funding works
