Cambiyo is now Nattive
If you’re looking for Cambiyo, you’re in the right place. Cambiyo was the earlier name of the product that is now Nattive. The name isn’t the only thing that changed, so this page explains the rest.
Where Cambiyo started
The first version, under the name Cambiyo, was about English conversation practice: learners talking with native English speakers online. It lived at cambiyo.app.
While we built it, we learned something that changed the plan. A lot of people want to learn English, and far fewer can afford regular lessons with a teacher. Wanting to learn and being able to pay for it aren’t the same thing. We decided the product had to do something about that, and that it needed qualified teachers to do it well.
We kept the core of the idea: live conversation with a real person, because that’s still the quickest way we know to get comfortable speaking. What changed is who you talk to, how you book, and what your booking pays for.
What Nattive is now
- Qualified teachers. Everyone who teaches holds a teaching certificate or a degree, and a person on our team reviews every application.
- Four languages: English, Spanish, French and German.
- Booked lessons. You choose a teacher, a lesson length and a time they’ve opened, and you see the full price before you pay.
- Prices in GBP, set by each teacher and paid one lesson at a time, with no subscription.
- Nattive Classroom. Part of every lesson helps fund free group English courses for learners in developing countries.
The native-speaker rule has gone. A teacher on Nattive can come from anywhere, as long as they’re qualified and speak the language they teach well. How Nattive works walks through a booking from start to finish.
What we’re building now
10% of the teacher’s lesson price, included in the one price you see, goes to Nattive Classroom. It’s pooled until there’s enough for the next course: 8 hours of free group English courses for a small group of up to five learners in developing countries, with a teacher paid for every hour. Places are for learners in the developing countries we select for the programme, subject to funding and places. We’re building the first course now, and we’ll publish what has been funded and taught as it happens. See how Classroom funding works on Our impact.
Our goal is 100,000 hours of live English teaching by the end of 2032. Our mission tells the story behind it.
What happened to the old pages
Some of the articles we published as Cambiyo, and in our first months as Nattive, described the old product. We’ve rewritten the ones that are still useful, like this one, and retired the rest. If you followed an old link, it now takes you to the page that answers the same question today, or to a page that says the old one has gone and suggests where to go instead.
Every page now lives at www.nattive.app. If an old bookmark doesn’t work, start again from the Guides page or the home page.
If you knew us as Cambiyo
There’s nothing you need to do. If you already have an account, you’ll hear from us by email. If you signed up for something under the Cambiyo name and have a question about it, email support@nattive.app and we’ll sort it out with you.
If you’re a teacher who looked at Cambiyo before, the way to teach has changed too. We now ask for a teaching certificate or degree, an intro video and an application. Teach with us has the details.
Where to start
Nattive is opening soon. Until then, Find a teacher opens a short form: leave your email and we’ll tell you the day lessons open.
What is Nattive? explains the product as it is today in a few minutes. Or start with the language you want to learn: English, Spanish, French and German.
